Part-Time Licensed Nutritionist

This position involves preparing and maintaining daily logs related to Vida Senior Center’s nutrition programs, tracking data, and compiling statistical information to meet grant and management reporting requirements. Responsibilities include ensuring the safety and readiness of spaces for nutritional education sessions, client counseling, and community health activities. The Nutritionist will also coordinate meal orders and ensure compliance with nutrition standards, contributing to the overall success of Vida’s senior nutrition initiatives.

Duties and Responsibilities

(Include but are not limited to):

  • Essential | Primary Functions:· Provide comprehensive nutritional assessments and counseling to individuals and groups, promoting healthy eating habits and lifestyle choices to Vida’s Senior participants.

    · Develop and implement personalized dietary plans based on individual health needs, medical conditions, and dietary preferences for the Vida membership enrolled on the nutrition program.

    · Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, including doctors, nurses, and social workers, to provide integrated care and support for Vida’s clients nutritional needs.

    · Educate and empower individuals and communities through workshops, seminars, and educational materials to promote good nutrition and healthy eating habits.

    · Conduct research and analyze data to contribute to the development of evidence-based nutritional and dietary programs.

    · Provide training, supervision, and mentorship to the kitchen Aid resources within the organization.

    · Keep abreast of the latest developments in nutrition science, dietary guidelines, and emerging trends in the field.

    · Contribute to the development and implementation of strategic initiatives to address community health needs and disparities.

    · Act as a liaison between our organization and external partners, such as schools, community centers, or healthcare facilities, to deliver nutrition-related programs and services.

     

    Other tasks as assigned.

    Communications

    · Develop and use program specific nutrition take-in forms to assess eligibility.

    · Review data for quality/completeness and help keep grant donor’s database up to date.

    · Coordinate meetings with internal and external organizational staff as needed.

    · Assist with communications and outreach to other senior centers in Washington DC to seek collaboration as per specific milestones regarding to assigned projects.

    · Review the units/progress reports and input relevant information into the report’s templates.

    · Create and maintain a report inventory to track deadlines for delivery.

    · Review and communicate final reports with the Vida Senior Center leadership.

    · Utilize data to draft success stories.

    · Work with the project lead to set up Spanish language Diabetes management programs in at least two suburban partner organizations.

     

    Programmatic Activities

    · Monitor implementation nutrition standards as per grantor policies.

    · Provide nutrition education to Vida Seniors participants through developing, strengthening and promoting healthy behaviors through culturally sensitive and accurate educational programs and activities aimed at enhancing the quality of life by developing healthier food choices and dietary habits, through good nutrition.

    · Maintain and send weekly logs of the Meal Request Form, to Vida’s main donor’s nutrition leading agency.

    · On a weekly basis, order the Vida Senior Center congregate meals one week in advance, based upon the number of pre-registered seniors.

    · Weekly coordination on the number of pre-registered seniors with client services staff for meals order

    · Fill in and maintain the Nutrition Education meal report and Supplement Form and deliver as per donor’s requirement.

    · Assess and monitor seniors needing supplements based on the dietitian’s assessment and send documentation to the lead agency for referral to get supplements.

    · As a dietitian, decisions on documenting and providing nutrition counseling as well as nutrition Education information usage are within her/him purview.

    · Track data and generate reports as per grantee requirements and deadlines.

    · Collaborate with the rest of the Vida counselors for new and special projects as needed.

    · Manage a paper copy of the daily meal report form for lunch temperature recorded daily by the kitchen Aid staff members.

    · Input Nutrition Counseling and Education notes from individual seniors in the donors’ databases as required.

    · Track and generate unit services for Nutrition Counseling and Education as per projected goals of the organization for this component.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Qualifications· Certified Nutritionist with a master’s degree in nutrition, Dietetics, and or related field.

    · Current registration and licensure with the appropriate regulatory body to work in Washington DC.

    · Minimum of 2 years of experience as a certified dietitian and nutritionist, preferably in a nonprofit or community health setting.

    · Fully bilingual English and Spanish

    · Strong understanding of public health principles, community nutrition, and health promotion strategies.

    · Excellent interpersonal, communication, and counseling skills, with the ability to engage and motivate diverse audiences.

    · Proven ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team and to build effective partnerships with external stakeholders.

    · Proficient in data analysis and research methodologies, with the ability to translate findings into actionable programs for organization growth.

    · Commitment to promoting health equity and addressing health disparities within underserved populations.

    · Proven experience of working in multicultural and multilingual settings.

    · Experience working with senior citizens.
