Position Title: Business Development Manager (BDM)

Classification: Part Time (20 Hours a week)

Reports to: President & CEO

Tour of Duty: Days of preference Monday through Friday.

Vida Senior Center (VSC) was founded in 1969, and is the oldest Hispanic non-profit organization in Washington D.C. For fifty years, its high-level team of experts has provided services to seniors to promote their physical and emotional wellbeing through cultural and linguistically appropriate programs and services. Vida serves the local Hispanic community with tools and technical assistance in education, health, welfare, housing, legal services, and employment, and promoting community organization to improve the quality of life of the whole Latino/Hispanic community.

Vida Senior Centers is hiring for a Part Time Business Development Manager who will operationalize all aspects of Vida’s business strategy. The BDM is a key member of a multi-faceted team that drives the full-cycle proposal process (from research, capture to post-submission). The BDM will liaise with President & CEO, Board and Vida’s team to advise on new business strategies and go/no go decisions for bids. In addition, the BDM will work on the renewal grants for long-lasting current DC and other donors, as well as leading and/or supporting new business efforts, including marketing, pipeline building, positioning, capture, and bid management / execution. The position will also mentor and train staff at all levels as they undertake business development functions.

Essential / Primary Functions

  • Proposal Development: Manages proposals following established procedures ensuring high quality and responsive submissions.
  • Serves as the capture lead for pre-solicitation activities and as proposal manager at the release of solicitation, leading the development process of winning proposals.
  • In charge of all aspects of proposal development and the submission process for compliance, responsiveness, competitiveness, and excellence.
  • In coordination with communications, create donations campaigns to be send through Vida’s donor management platform (Mighty Cause) as well as, social media and Constant Contacts campaigns, including giving Tuesdays)
  • Supports social events fundraising ideas for fundraising unrestricted funds purposes.
  • Leads and/or supports writing proposal sections and expressions of interest (EOIs).
  • Maintains up-to-date proposal templates, including Project Performance Reports (PPRs) and Corporate Capabilities Statements.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge about fundamental programmatic aspects for Vida’s projects in our core areas of operation.
  • Maintains the SharePoint platform for management of new business opportunities.
  • Drafts and manages consortia partner memorandums of understanding (MOU), teaming agreements, and letters of commitment (LOC).
  • Drafts contracts for new business consultants and provides logistical support including processing invoices and collecting deliverables.
  • Drafts various reports for the President & CEO on Business Development for Board of Directors reports every two months.
  • Maintains BD statistics and performance-tracking documents such as a Pipeline of funding opportunities.
  • Supports monitoring of new business opportunities through Washington, D.C. forecasts such as Grants.gov, private corporations, foundations etc.
  • Attend public events related to new business, as needed.
  • Contributes to technical incubators/design sessions and review teams (both technical and cost) to ensure the development of high-quality proposal submissions; troubleshoots where necessary and support post- review efforts as needed.
  • Coordinates closely or supports other BD functions, including Recruitment and Pricing.
  • Reviews solicitation documents for proposal requirements and works with other departments to ensure compliance with donors’ regulations.
  • Attends weekly planning meetings with Vida’s leadership
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with 5 years of relevant experience; or master’s degree with 4 years of relevant experience in Business Development, Proposal writer or related.
  • Strong knowledge of DC government procurement and corporations in the DMV area.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Spanish, and strong writing and editing skills, required.
  • Considerable skills and experience in U.S. government donor regulations, to support compliance of project and organization’s requirements laid out in contracts and cooperative agreements
  • Experience organizing and managing project knowledge/information and/or with Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning systems, highly preferred.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment as well as independently, multitask and troubleshoot under tight deadlines.
  • Legally eligible to work in the U.S. without Visa sponsorship in the future, required.
  • Experience and knowledge in use of AI for business development preferred.

Education, Experience & Training

  • Master’s degree in international relations, International Development, Public Administration, Non-profit management or Related Field
  • Minimum of six years of relevant professional experience.
